It is important to analyze the aforementioned technology before we consider implementing it so we can best assess its ability in relation to our reported learning deficiency. Here are listed affordances made possible by WeVideo.
Media: The program affords the user the ability to create content through the abilities to speak, listen, hear, and see media in action through images, audio, and video.
Spatial: The program affords the user the ability to resize and shape content on the viewing screen. Content can be dragged and dropped using the trackpad on a chromebook, or finger on a mobile device.
Temporal: The program can be accessed at any time, any where there is an internet connection. The learner can record themselves as well as screen record their device. This media can be edited and played back in real time.
Navigation: With organized tool bars and folders as well as content bars and icons the program is very easy to navigate to find what you are looking for to complete.
Emphasis: The program places an emphasis on the audio and video editing as they make it the most visually appeal part of the screen.
Synthesis: The program has the ability to be combined with many other devices and features such as mobile phones and tablets for recording and transferring media content, to apps such as google drive and classroom as well as embedding in video sites such as blogs, youtube, vimeo etc.
Access Control: The admin/teacher has access to everyone’s page and projects. They can check on appropriateness and offer scaffolding. However, One feature lacking is the ability to approve uploads. Learners can export their projects without the approval of their teacher/admin. Protocols will need to be put in place.
Technical: The program is very easily used in school on the chromebooks. With the schools high speed wireless internet there are no issues outside of typical technology problems. Program can be used outside of school on mobile devices and any other device (exception of ipad). The created videos or products can be embedded into existing programs such as blogs, youtube, google drive/classroom, and websites.
Usability: Similar to basic coding programs, WeVideo is very easy to manipulate for learners of all levels. Basic click, block, drag and place functions allow learners to arrange their media content with no problems. Customization of audio and video media is also very easy to upload and edit.
Reliability: Learners won’t have to worry about losing progress as the program is cloud based and autosaves as the user creates their product. Even with many users the product does not appear to freeze or cause significant wait time for any of the features.
Aesthetics: The overall design and look of the product is very appealing and visually appealing. With the vivid pictures, overlays, graphics, and media content it should have no problem holding the attention of the user and motivating them to create their products.
